Can you tell us a bit about yourself, your work and why you’re interested in what you do?

I’m Lizzy Edwards. London is my home where I work for Mixcloud as their EA and in-house Wellness Advisor. Music and mental health are two huge passion points of mine, so I love working somewhere those are combined. I’ve recently trained as a womb healer, which blends shamanic massage, meditation and sound healing — which also helps these two passions thrive.

6 years ago I burnt out. I didn’t know what direction life was taking me and I lost connectionwith myself. To try and recharge and manage my intense anxiety, I left London for an Ashram in India which was a real turning point for me. I now use what I learnt during this time to help others with the tools I’ve trained in, keeping my teaching accessible and open to all levels and backgrounds.

How do you usually work with people in your meditation and wellness work?

I like to feel I have a no-nonsense approach to all my offerings. I make sure my classes are open to everyone — regardless of experience, region or background. I work with my intuition to understand what the person or group needs that day and it just unfolds naturally from my heart. I used to teach yoga in studios, but full-time work pulled me away so it’s nice to be able to teach online now.

How have you been involved with shesaid.so?

I have loved working with the team and getting to know everyone. Shesaid.so do such amazing work so I was really happy to be able to take over on their platform and share my live meditation. Hopefully this is just the start of more collaborations.

What are your aims for your live session ‘Heart Recharge’ and who do you hope to reach or relate to with your session?

My heart recharge concept stemmed from the realisation that right now more than ever, a lot of people need a lot more of self-love as we navigate through the difficult times that 2020 keeps presenting to us. From speaking to people, I know that a lot of them are either working non-stop or the complete opposite, and are unsure what the future holds for them. I wanted to create a meditation that would reach as many people as possible to help them along the way.

What do you think the importance of wellness in a company environment is, particularly in the music industry?

The music industry is always a switched-on environment regardless of your role. Many people are either travelling a lot, working odd hours (especially DJs/MCs and promoters) and office-based people are working across different time zones. It’s a fast-moving industry where people need the tools to understand how and when to step back and take a moment to slow down, at least now and again.

How have you seen your work, either meditation or wellness advisory, impact and help others?

I work across different industries supporting staff and students with my offerings. I know from the feedback I’ve received that people are more likely to keep up with their mindfulness if they’re attending my classes as they find turning up makes them accountable. I received some feedback about how someone I had been teaching since the beginning of lockdown used their new-found meditation tool ahead of an interview to help calm them and
boost their confidence. It was lovely to hear I’d been able to help in other aspects of their life. That’s the point of all of this work I’m doing. It’s to help others gain access to what they already have within themselves… their own inner power.
